New Street Naming Competition

Recently the developers of a new housing estate on the edge of Drury got in trouble over their street naming strategy. Apparently the street names differed little from those in sunny Berkshire. The difference being that we are in Wales.

So we have two new estates of White Lion and Wood Lane  that will require new road names. May I start the ball rolling.

Tom's Way - This should be one of the major roads. This in recognition of Cllr Tom Jones OBE's iron grip of Penyffordd Community Council for the last thirty years.

Scribes Retreat - Perhaps a side road off the rat run that will pass through the White Lion Estate from Wellhouse.

Cement Rd - In recognition of days gone by when car windscreens were covered with cement.

Alan Skips Way - A name change for Chester Rd which has become a trunk road again.

Turkeys End - A fitting memory for all those turkeys that have ended up on Xmas dinner plates from Mr Hewitt's farm.

Oulton Park - For a cul de sac near the Penyffordd Bypass where bikers hurl along at 120 mph with illegal
exhausts on Saturdays and Sundays from Spring to Autumn.

Please feel free to participate in the comments section.

  8. I really dont understand why Colin and Mr Anonymous (Colin) feel the need to constantly make snidy remarks about Nigel Jones (and others) on this blog.
It really is very childish and nasty.
Nigel is a decent sort that has done many good things for Penyffordd community.
I personally wouldnt blame Nigel (and others) for taking legal action for some of the bile that gets spouted on here about him/them. It would serves you right Colin if you got sued for a large sum, you bitter, chippy little man.

    1. You say I put comments on here in anonymous mode. I do not.
I have no idea nor wish to know the identity of Anons.

I see nothing wrong with the term " Scribe's Retreat ".

I see nothing wrong with campaigning for Nigel to have an email address for residents to contact the community council. He has a rather high communications bar. " Can you ring back? being the standard comment when ringing him up ".

Perhaps he expects us all to use the postal service to contact him. It helps to cut down work he has to do in my opinion.

Bottom line being Nigel does not want an email address. It will be interesting to see what course of action the community council take over this.

I don't see Clive Weed getting in a pickle over comments

If you had any balls you would put a name to your comments.

This forum has brought up issues such as no village health care, HGV short cut, speeding, lack of investment for youth, lack of affordable housing on White Lion, the future White Lion rat run.
The election of a councillor who is too sick to do anything worth while

If the Penyffordd Establishment don't like it, Tough.

    2. Nigel takes on these Council jobs, he obviously likes to feel important and be in the public eye.
On could argue that he cared about the community and the common good etc. If this were entirely true why does he not have an e mail address for the CC. Why when we ring up do we never get to speak to him and why should we ring back? Is Nigel working in the interests of the Penyffordd Community or just for the little bit of glory he thinks it brings? Fair question.

    3. What a load of old tripe and rubbish. When was the last time you tried to call Nigel? Do you have any clear evidence to back up these allegations ie dates and times? Or are you, as I suspect you to be a mudslinger and stirrer. About time you backed up your pathetic comments with some hard facts mr or ms anonymous.

    4. I rang Nigel up about Election forms. All the cronies had their forms given to them by Nigel.

I had to go to County Hall. Nigel had run out.

When I rang, Nigel wasn't in. Can I ring back between 9 - 10 pm was the request.

    5. Colin, like Nigel (my dad) said to you, he was given a certain amount of forms to give the existing Councillors only (he also wrote this on here to you)!
And do you expect my dad to be in the house 24/7? He is very busy and has a social life, something clearly you do not have.
P.s my dad has not told me to come on here to "fight his battles". I come on here quite often to see what continuous rubbish you come up with.

    6. Lydia says " And do you expect my dad to be in the house 24/7? "

That's why we have the magic of emails Lydia. Less phone calls, can be answered when you want.

Lydia also says "he was given a certain amount of forms to give the existing Councillors only"

Not very democratic that Lydia. A certain line of thinking in place. One presumes County Hall thought just the usual councillors would stand. I think a little presumptious !

      Delete
    7. Well Lydia, it looks like you need to get a life if you have to come on here for entertainment!
If your Father is this so honest and keen to do his job how come he did not do anything about the presence of Cllr. Colin Bithell inside the Polling Station, when we were casting our votes? It was intimidating and well out of order. He should have been disqualified and if he had any shred of decency in him he would have stood down.
Granted, Nigel was not the Returning Officer but he is this wizz of a Clerk to every Council between here and Abergavenney, maybe he would like to comment on that, or perhaps if he is that busy with his 'Social life' he could get you to do it for him!

  16. An Anon lawyer without any cojones says " From my law days the way that anonymous is talking about your father could be taken as being:
    libellous, defamatory or slanderous!!"

I consider this rather sad. The Penyffordd Establishment don't want any village comment about their short comings.

    Local Media reads

Blogger taken to court because he wanted the village clerk to have an email address.

Blogger taken to court because he said newly elected councillor doesn't know what day it is.

Blogger taken to court because he questioned why Penyffordd had no doctors.

Blogger taken to court for suggesting council have agendas and minutes on line in digital form. ( as opposed to photocopies)

Not much PR in the above.

As far as I can tell " Anonymous" accounts for about 15 different commenters.

My records show the last 20 lookers on the site. These will have disappeared in two hours time.

I assume that kind of meeting is not covered under the Council's Code of Conduct. Nigel would know, he was probably there that night, though not taking any minutes I would venture.
Who did these people think they were, the Police? The Courts? PCC has no powers that I am aware of. This is what they are capable of so who would defend them?

  19. How about "Colin's Way"?- the worst street in the village.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Well I suppose it's subjective.

Chester Rd in 2007 had 2700 vehicles a day, 2000 of them speeding.
Could have been up for a prize as worst street in the village.

      Delete
    2. You mention these 2000 speeders quite frequently in your blog
Can I ask how you know there were 2000 speeders? (genuine question)

      Delete
    3. In early May 2007 Cllr David Williams arranged a meeting with Flintshire Highways Top Men. Cllr Colin Bithell chaired the meeting over speeding on Chester Rd. Cllr Linda Vidamour and residents attended. I attended I sat directly across to FCC Head of Engineering.

On the morning of the meeting Lisa and I conducted a "speed survey" between 7.45 and 9.0am. We counted the number of cars and our perceived view of vehicles breaking the speed limit.

Before the meeting I spoke to an FCC Road Safety Officer. I put to him that there were approximately 66% of vehicles breaking the speed limit. His view was that " I might not be wrong in my assessment"

FCC Highways have carried out six speed surveys of Chester Rd since April 2007. They use two methods. The standard wires across the road and the more covert Doppler effect system.

You may find this hard to believe but from the wheel base measurement they can detect what type of vehicle is going past the sensors. It's speed, time, even how many people are in the vehicle using the doppler equipment.
I've got the specification for the equipment and prices.

All this data can be put on an Excel spreadsheet. Various FOIE's I have made to FCC and Gosafe have come up with little.
I have even been in Council Leader Cllr Arnold Woolley's office at County Hall

In the end Gosafe said I was being vexatious. The bottom line being they are loath to release all the data.

I do have a redacted copy of the 2008 data.

Cllr Colin Bithell has always said there was little speeding. He could say this as he made sure to never ask or look at the data.

Times have changed. Car fuel is dear. Gosafe are here three times a week.

We remain however a major short cut route for Airbus, Broughton Retail Park, A55 Warren Bank exits, Warren Hall Business Park if it is ever built. Also holiday makers travelling from the north of England and Scotland to and from Mid Wales.

    4. Colin!! I will say you are an absolute disgrace!! You have not only pulled apart the councillors of the village but also Nigel the clerk and a young member of his family who chose to answer you back.
Nigel is the clerk and does not revel in anything or want the limelight!!
I have lived in this village all my life , my father all his and his father before him too; so I will say I am local and feel you are bringing the village down as a laughing stock! You are no longer winding people up or irritating them just simply providing them with entertainment! You are an obsessive little fool!
I agree a website would be good for the village and also an email address for enquiries etc.. However why should the councillors be at the call of people 24/7? If people need to discuss matters with the councillors I am sure they can contact any of the councillors to make an appointment!(All their numbers are displayed in the post office) They are doing this job voluntarily and most of them give plenty of their time! How do you contribute to the village?
I am a good christian and the conduct on this site has questioned my faith in humility! You behave with total disregard for you neighbours and fellow constituents! Chester road is not the be all and end all!! What is your quest? Why not attend the next community council to listen to your concerns rather than behaving like a little jump start slagging good people off!
I understand that you are not allowed to speak at the meetings but maybe you could make an appointment individually with ALL the councillors before hand and give them all you grumbles? Probably a little difficult for you now though?
Listening to you I think you would like to move into a walled community? Sorry Denbigh has closed!

  20. So a concise answer to my question would be "the figure of 2000 speeders was made up by Colin and Lisa"
    Lol
I genuinely thought you were going to tell me that arrive alive had caught 2000 speeders in a day and that you had obtained the information via one of your many FOI requests
Colin and Lisa's speed survey - Another classic Colin!
I can just picture you and Lisa sitting in your garden in your anoraks with clip boards and a flask of tea.

  21. You say " pulled apart the councillors of the village but also Nigel the clerk and a young member of his family who chose to answer you back."

All I have asked for is the clerk to have an email address. I haven't said anything against his daughters.

You say " Nigel is the clerk and does not revel in anything or want the limelight!!"
I have said nothing of the sort.

You say good christian then call me little jump start slagging good people off! A strange god you worship.

You say " However why should the councillors be at the call of people 24/7?"

They stood for election. Emails can be sent via the comfort of your own home. They can be answered at the convenience of the cllr. They give a permanent record of what was said. Something to be afraid of perhaps.

You say " Chester road is not the be all and end all!!. It is if you live here. Other residents share my concerns.

You mention Denbigh. If you get your knickers in a twist over the simple matter of a village clerk having an email address I fear there is no hope for you. If you look around you'll find lots of residents have email addresses about 70% of the village.

Tom Jones let the village down by allowing Joe Bell to stand on his sheet being the only blemish.

I have met the council on their open meeting that is held once a year.

I have NOT ever been asked to meet the council. There is no need.

I stand for a transparent council that shows good governance, their agendas and minutes online. A council that can be reached by email.

Then why doesn't he b*gger off somewhere else to live?
I'll tell you why - The fact of the matter is Colin would be the same "victim" wherever he lived.
I'm afraid Colin is the sort of person that isnt happy unless he's having a moan at the establishment or playing the victim.
How many petty FOI requests have you submitted since the new laws were brought out in 2000 (iirc)? Wasting tax payers money again! I think that the council should have an email address
I think that council minutes and agendas should be online.
I think that illegal exhausts should be policed
I think that the 2000 speeders in Chester Rd in 2007 was an issue.
      ( So did others)
I think that tailgaiting ( bullying) an issue.

FOIE's to find out how many speeders we had on Chester Rd a waste of public time.

So I'm a victim for standing up to the crap that used to fly through here every day.
