A Commenter's View of Penyffordd Councillors

Thank you for your effort Sir/Madam
Reproduced here from a comment elsewhere
It deserves a place at the top.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have refrained thus far from entering the fray, but the time has come where as someone who has had dealings with many Councillors and Local Government Finance, that I feel I must intervene.
I am full of admiration for Men and Women who selflessly give up their quality time to attend meetings on behalf of the Community, without any remuneration whatsoever. (unlike those who get Elected to the County council on £12,500 per Annum plus expenses). So I have been taking a look at what has been achieved these past 4 years by Penyffordd Community Council, and this is what I have found:-

2008/9 MultiUse games area £12,000

Millstone/Melwood play area £6000

Melwood and Dobshill play Area--£5000

Annual Litter Collection--£5,500 per year

Seasonal grasscutting-- £3,750 per year

Christmas Lighting--£4000 per year

Summer Play Scheme --£900 per year

Street Lighting--£5000 per year

Grants to Organisations--£3200 per year

Grant to War Memorial Institute--£3400 per year

Provision of extra salt bins--£1000

This equates to a Band D property Council Tax Payer of 60p per week. One of the lowest Band d Charges in Flintshire.

I believe this to be highly commendable, and I hope this will be helpful both to yourself and all those who read your blog.

I also believe it reflects great credit upon all the existing Members of the Council and I urge Electors to re-elect those who are seeking re-election together with some new blood in the form of Clive And Helen, then we will have the right comination of experience and drive.

I do this in the interests of Truth.

  1. Lets hope Clive Weed and Helen Jones can persuade the council that Nigel the clerk should have an email address.

Also that that the other councillors who treat residents with such contempt should uncover their email addresses. After all you stand for council to work for us, don't you?

    Email hiders in full

    1. The addresses of all Councillors is made clearly known in the newsletter published by the Clerk annually.

    2. Emails are a lot easier. Discuss why they are not.

    3. Good Lawyers dislike emails, they prefer hard copy.

  2. This could be a comment by Tom Jones OBE.

    1. I'll have to think about that one.
To be sure Tom will have to go along with progress
      after the elections.

      1. Good communication lines with residents
      2. Agendas and minutes on line. They can be done free.
      3. Perhaps the slowing down of traffic and banning of HGV
except for access. A bypass was built for them !

    1. Captian Mainwaring: Nearly all council's have email addresses for the community clerk.

      It's the modern way.

Your bullying shows how desperate the old brigade are to stick to what are basically restrictive practices in this day and age.

If Nigel won't do his job properly ( ie allowing easy communication ) perhaps someone else might fancy £8500 a year for a few days work a month. Easy peasy.

    2. Anyone with a few grey cells can see your argument does not hold water.

Part of the sickness of old Penyffordd Community Council.

    3. How can you say Nigel isnt doing his job properly just because he chooses not to publish his email address?
You really are a class one bell end Colin!
(delete this by all means but at least you know what I think of you, you horrible little man)

    4. He chooses to make it difficult to contact him.
      Explain why this is happening?

      I'll leave your insult on.
It just shows you and Nigel who you try to defend in a very poor light.

Nigel will not approve of you calling me a bell end. As he says he has a reputation to protect, you are not helping his cause.

I have a point of view, I pay my rates. Time to lower the communication barrier.

Time the community council started to get real. Time for Nigel to get real or go.

  4. Ok so we have a break down of spending by the community council.

Out the total spent how much is funded via local tax payers and how much has been raised via grants and other activities, donations etc?

    1. Good question. Lets hope someone can answer it.

    2. OK, Thanks.

So if it's 100% funded via local tax payers, what has the CC been doing the last 4 years to obtain additional benefits for residents via local / national funding incentives?

This kind of smacks of "sitting on one's hands" and is a bit of an indictment of those councillors who stand.

We need councillors who "have a stake in the community" and are prepared to work and fight to obtain the best result for those they represent.

To anything less is complacency of the highest order.

  5. If they don't have to give out their e-mail address then why should they? Let it go Colin, your arguments are boring and repetitive!

    1. I strongly suspect that if an email was sent to the general Flintshire County Council contact email (published on the FCC website) with "for the attention of Nigel Jones" in the title it would be filtered / processed and find its way to him, provided of course the content warranted his attention.

I'm sure if Nigel published his email address he would spend a lot of his valuable time reading hundreds of spam emails off certain people(mentioning no names) regarding such hugely important issues as why the brownies got 50 quid more than the Penyfordd whine circle, who's in the masons, Tom Jones is really the evil Lord Voldemort etc.

Would we as tax payers really want his time to be wasted like this?

    2. Your excuses for Nigel not having an email are poor. I have exchanged TWO single emails with councillors over the last 18 months. The two were with David Williams at his instigation.

In the end Penyffordd Community Council will decide whether they want to have proper easy communication with the council through email.

Nigel's way is not acceptable. Most council's have email addresses.

The council will be pandering to Nigel who gets £8500 a year for a few days work a month if they allow him to carry on with his Spanish practices.

My two penneth as a rate payer.
