Who decides on a coherrent strategy for Penyffordd District

Is it Penyffordd Community Council or Penyffordd County Councillors of which there are two?

If it's Penyffordd Community Council it's Tom Jones as political leader of the village who has the final say.

Do we have a four year strategy or do we just bungle along?

    I think fair comment. I haven't got it in for Tom. Tom is village leader. Do we have a direction, do we need one?

    Why do you display your ignorance so blatantly?
    Penyffordd does not, nor ever has had a Political Leader!
    Penyffordd Community Council does not nor ever has had a leader!
    Penyfford has 10 exeloent Councillors who all make a contribution towards a decision, this then becomes the Council's position.
    That is the democratic way of conducting Council business.
    I am a retired profesional person and I am amazed at your ignorance in these matters. Why do you not attend and learn how procedure works?
    I have lived in this Community for over 70 years, and I have know Cllr Tom Jones for at least 60 years and I have followed his Public Service for a long time, and there are a few thgings perhaps you ought to know!
    Cllr Tom Jones was elected to serve on the Parish/Community Council and subsequently on the Flintshire County Council. He was soon after elected to the Clwyd County Council and appointed by that Council to serve on the Clwyd Family Practitioner Committee and became Chairman of the Welsh Association of Family Practitioner Committees elected by his peers. He was later appointed by The Secretary of State for Wales to be the Chairman of Clwyd Family Health Services Authority.
    Cllr Tom Jones was elected by Clwyd County Council to serve on the Clwyd Valuation Tribunal becoming it's Chairman and later President of the North Wales Tribunal and served upon the National Committee in London as the Welsh Representative.
    Throughout this time he never had an appeal against any of his dicisions, what a fine record!!!! At one time he served on 15 School Governing Bodies as an appointee of the County Council, currently he serves as Chairman of Penyffordd Governing Body and Castell Alun high School Governing Body a position to which he has continually been elected. For all this Public Service he was invited to Buckingham Palace to be decorated by Her Majesty The Queen and appointed an Officer of The Most Excellent Order of The British Empire. This is the man whom you deliberately set out to vilify, Penyffordd has cause to celebrate one of their favourite sons who has never let us down.His judgement is supreme in all matters.
    I hope this helps to enlighten you, and put an end to all this silly and disgraceful nonsense.
    Should the Electors of Penyffordd elect Mr Colin Hughes the tone and reputation of our Community will be severely damaged.

      Who organised the secret Penyffordd Community Council to see who they could get to shut me up !
      Who said speeding was nothing to do with the community council when it was 2000 cars a day !
      Who recommended a 25 year old society receive no further grants. An abuse of his position in my opinion that should be dealt with by the Welsh Ombudsman !

      It must have been the fairies. Cos Tom wouldn't do anything like that ! That will make a few laugh I would imagine.

      You try to take attention from the comment question. Does Penyffordd Community Council have a strategy for the future apart from limiting the involvment of any Labour cllr input to Penyffordd.

    You didn't mention that he was asked? to step down as a County Councillor because of his age. Why does that then mean he is ok to serve as a Community Councillor? Surely he should have also stepped down as Community Councillor. It's not being ageist just realistic. We need people with more go!

      I pity the OAPs in the village if this is the attitude annon takes? (Annon??) Is it the case that annon feels once you reach a certain age you should be put out to pasture? How dreadful!!

      Tom Jones was paid off by the Welsh Assembly Government to allow younger people to take part in local politics. Should have been applied to town and community councils as well. He's 85 years old. Tom Jones leads the Independents that have the most seats on Penyffordd Community Council.

    That is quite a list of Cllr. Tom Jones'accomplishments. The fact remains that he is 85. No man his age can appreciate the problems faced in today's world for families with children.
    There are those on here who paint a very rosy picture of the aforementioned. If he is the caring grandfatherly figure that you all claim him to be, why do most people-including myself-comment on here do it anonymously? Could we be a little afraid of Tom and his cronies????Just a thought.

      I have to say, as a relative newcomer to the village (I moved to Penyffordd in 1997) I was genuinely not aware of the history and accomplishments of Mr Tom Jones.

      He has clearly had an influence at many levels

      But without wishing to sound sarcastic, it's quite surprising that having had someone with such influence at district, county and national levels, that facilities in Penymynydd and Penyffordd have been allowed to lapse to such a low level.

      We have no doctors, few shops and three schools that are pretty much at capacity, and yet further developments are planned, to put yet more strain on the existing facilities with little or no benefit to the existing residents.

      If Mr Jones has had such influence over the years how come the village has "lagged" those in the surrounding areas?

      Even simple things, like the policing of the restricted section of Penymynydd Rd is sporadic and ill-enforced?

      This has been on-going for the last thirty years.....the influence is there but not used to "our" advantage.

      I'm not saying that "new" is necessarily good, but based on what I can see with my eyes, surely we can improve on what has gone before?

      And just to provide balance, I should mention that I have followed this blog for a while.

      Whilst I wouldn't agree with Colin's methods, at least he has the conviction in what he believes in, even if I don't neceesarily agree with his method of "delivery".

      If the current community council members had the same level of "passion" for their community, then perhaps the facilities within our community would be on-par with those close by.

      Think I would check with regard to the schools? Think they are undersubscribed??
      Years ago the villagers voted to not wanting the village to have more shops, a bank etc...It was all on offer I believe?

      Up until recently, St John's in Penymynydd used to use "selection criteria" to whittle down the excess numbers over their "allowance". You may well be correct that this process is no longer in use due to reduced admissions.

      I don't know all the facts, but I do know that two of the applicants for this years Reception class at St John's were refused a place. I doubt this would be the case if the school was undersubscribed.

    I think its best that people comment anonymously. No records are kept except for mention of the blackmail attempt on my wife in 2008. You are correct to fear Tom and his cronies. They have tried to lean on me three times and taken revenge with holding grant money in spite full revenge. The arrogance spell binding. More on Tom shortly.
