No proper doctors in Penyffordd
Penyffordd residents have to go to Buckley, Broughton or Hope.
Buckley and Hope are have new state of the art medical centres built.

There will be 4000 residents in Penyffordd within the next 10 years.
You will probably find that a lot of residents were already going to Hope, Buckley and Broughton even before this was closed. The clinic was not open for doctors all day every day of the week!
ReplyDeleteIs there not a case for attempting to get Penyffordd people to use a Penyffordd based doctors?
ReplyDeleteI used to visit my doctor when they were in Penyffordd, even though they weren't open all day every day. The doctor I see now only works part-time so, if I want to see my own doctor rather than whoever I can get an appointment with, I can only go on certain days.
ReplyDeleteA fully functioning Health Centre in the village would be a Godsend to many I believe. There are many NHS services that could be provided there not just a doctor's surgery. Chiropody, Phlebotomy, Family Planning, to name but a few. Expectant and new Mums could visit their Midwife and/or Health Visitor and even attend ante-natal and post-natal classes there. There are also many treatments that can be provided by a nurse and although there are some, such as immunisations, that require a doctor to be on the premises, there are also many that don't.
I for one would welcome such a positive addition to the village and cannot understand how anyone can view it as anything other than an asset!
I think having a facility in the middle of Penyffordd that you describe of great importance.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it can become a goal, part of a strategy for Penyffordd. Councillors do read this site even if they don't say anything. Let's hope they take your comments on board.
Even though the Doctors Surgery was not open every day of the week, you do raise some valid points here Colin. A Primary Care Service is important in a small village in which we could have our urgent problems dealt with quickly, our long-term problems dealt with by a doctor we know, who knows us. Travelling to a surgery in Broughton that covering a larger area can lead to a loss of continuity of care, a loss of personal care and can be of detriment to the strong doctor-patient bond which has been the hallmark of General Practice in rural communities for generations.
ReplyDeleteWith the elderly in mind, a local GP practice with a practice nurse offers essential services like blood tests, wound dressings, Blood pressure monitoring etc.
You raise important points. When I need a doctor at the Buckley surgery I don't get too fussy. I'll take any doctor going due to the pressure on the practice diary system.
